Crispy Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes

Ingredients

For the potatoes:

  • 1½ lbs baby Yukon Gold or red potatoes

  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 tsp garlic powder)

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional, for extra crispiness)

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

For the creamy dipping sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • 1–2 tbsp sriracha (adjust to spice preference)

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • Pinch of salt


Instructions

1️⃣ Boil the Potatoes

  • Place whole potatoes in a pot and cover with salted water.

  • Bring to a boil and cook 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.

  • Drain and let them steam dry for 5–10 minutes.

2️⃣ Smash

  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).

  • Place potatoes in the air fryer basket (or on a lined tray).

  • Use the bottom of a glass to gently press each potato until flattened but still intact.

3️⃣ Season

  • Brush generously with olive oil.

  • Sprinkle with garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and Parmesan.

4️⃣ Air Fry

  • Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes until crispy and golden brown.

  • Flip halfway if needed for even crisping.

(Oven option: Bake at 425°F / 220°C for 25–30 minutes.)

5️⃣ Make the Sauce

  • Mix mayo, sriracha, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt until smooth.

  • Adjust spice level to taste.

6️⃣ Serve

  • Sprinkle potatoes with fresh parsley.

  • Serve hot with dipping sauce.

  • Let potatoes dry fully before smashing.

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket.

  • Add a light second brush of oil halfway through cooking.

  • For cheesy crust, sprinkle Parmesan before cooking.
