Air Fryer Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus

Makes about 12 bundles (serves 4)


Ingredients

  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 lb / 450 g)

  • 12 slices thin-cut bacon (not thick cut — it won’t crisp as well)

  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Optional: 1 tablespoon brown sugar or maple syrup

  • Optional: grated Parmesan (for finishing)

  • Toothpicks (if needed)


Step 1: Prep the Asparagus

  1. Wash and pat dry completely.

  2. Trim the woody ends (about 1 inch off the bottom).

    • Quick method: bend one spear — it will naturally snap where tender meets tough.

  3. If spears are very thick, slice them lengthwise for even cooking.


Step 2: Season

  1. Place asparagus in a bowl.

  2. Drizzle with olive oil.

  3. Sprinkle black pepper and garlic powder.

  4. Toss lightly to coat.

(Go easy on salt — bacon is already salty.)


Step 3: Make the Bundles

  1. Divide asparagus into small bundles (3–4 spears each).

  2. Wrap one slice of bacon tightly around the center of each bundle.

  3. Slightly overlap the bacon as you wrap.

  4. Secure with a toothpick if needed.

💡 Tip: Stretch the bacon slightly while wrapping — it tightens as it cooks and holds better.


Step 4: Air Fry

  1. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.

  2. Place bundles in a single layer in the basket.

    • Do NOT overcrowd.

  3. Cook for 10–14 minutes, flipping halfway through.

They’re done when:

  • Bacon is crispy and browned

  • Asparagus is tender but still slightly firm

If bacon needs more crisping, cook 1–2 extra minutes.


Optional Sweet Glaze (Highly Recommended)

For sweet-savory flavor:

  • Brush lightly with maple syrup or sprinkle brown sugar on bacon before air frying.

  • In the last 2 minutes, brush again for caramelization.

After cooking:

  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan

  • Add a squeeze of fresh lemon

  • Drizzle balsamic glaze

  • Add cracked black pepper


🔥 Oven Version (If No Air Fryer)

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Line a baking sheet with foil + wire rack.

  3. Bake 18–22 minutes until bacon is crisp.

Broil for 2–3 minutes at the end for extra crisp.
